Tom Conti

Tom Conti (Bert Gordon) was born to an Italian immigrant father and a Scottish mother in Paisley, Scotland. Conti was trained as a classical pianist at Glasgow's Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama before shifting his attention to the stage where he won a Tony for his Broadway performance in Whose Life Is It Anyway? (1979).

Conti became incressingly popular in the early 1980's as his film career took off and gave an Oscar-nominated performance as a drunken Scottish lothario in Reuben, Reuben.

He continued to make both film and TV appearances in the 80s & '90s, including Shirley Valentine as the heroine's Greek lover, and his unforgettable portrayal of the eponymous character in the war drama Merry Chirstmas, Mr. Lawrence. In 1986 he earned a Golden Globe nomination as a Holocaust survivor in Nazi Hunter: The Beate Klarsfeld Story.

Conti also accumulated his telvision credits appearing on the six-part BBC series The Glittering Prizes, and most recently a few episodes of Friends, and a co-star of NBC's Deadline.
