Former UFC champion Rampage Jackson Rumored to play B.A. Baracus

Rumored to be cast to re-invent the role of B.A. Baracus is charismatic former UFC light-heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Jackson competes for the role with several other possibilities including, 50 Cent, The Game and Common. Like many UFC fighters, Jackson has made the leap from the ring to the silver screen. With six movies under his belt since the start of 2008, the A-Team would be his largest role to date.

New A-Team Movie - Who should play B.A., Face, Murdoch & Hannibal?

The A-Team is a classic 80’s American action adventure television series about a fictional group of ex-United States Army Special Forces who work as soldiers of fortune while being on the run from the military for a “crime they didn’t commit“.

The nickname for “A-teams” comes from the Operational Detachments Alpha (ODA). The US Army Special Forces uses the term ODA for their 12-man direct operations teams.

The A-Team was created by writers and producers Frank Lupo and Stephen J. Cannell (who also collaborated together on Wiseguy, Riptide and Hunter) at the behest of Brandon Tartikoff, NBC’s Entertainment president.

The A-Team will be Filming in Vancouver Aug. 17 ~ and in the Middle East shortly after.

Has the A-Team Found Their Capt. “Howling Mad” Murdock?

Sharlto Copley (District 9) and Jessica Biel (Easy Virtue) are in the final negotiations with Fox to join the cast of Joe Carnahan’s (Smokin' Aces) 2010 action/adventure The A-Team. Biel and Copley will star along side Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper and the recently cast Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Copley will be playing helicopter pilot Capt. “Howling Mad” Murock, while Biel will be playing the ex-love of Lt. Templeton 'Faceman' Peck (Cooper). The film keeps the TV series premise of four wrongly convicted vets escaping from prison to become do-gooder mercenaries but carries a more serious tone than the small-screen version, and is set to be released on June 11th, 2010.

Common ‘Excited’ to Join ‘A-Team’ Movie, Unsure How He’ll Do the Mohawk

I pity the fool who doesn’t think that Common would bring the badass back to B.A. Baracus in Joe Carnahan’s upcoming big-screen adaptation of “The A-Team.” The guy is big and intimidating, a startlingly effective screen presence, and he harnesses the sort of inner teddy bear quality that made Mr. T such a fan favorite for kids all those years ago.

Over the weekend, the “Terminator Salvation” star confirmed to us that the buzz is indeed building, and that he may someday slip behind the driver’s wheel of that famous black-and-red van. “Yeah, I’ve been hearing that, man,” said the actor/rapper. “I’ve been hearing that.”

The movie would reunite Common with “Smokin’ Aces” director Carnahan, and it could possibly match them with newly-christened “Star Trek” A-lister Chris Pine as well. Mr. T played the role of B.A. Baracus on TV for all of the series’ five seasons, and he has said that he will not appear in the movie unless he returns as the Baracus character.

“...If I’m considered for that role, I’m excited about it,” Common said of replacing Mr. T. “I mean, I would love to do that. That’s iconic...”

Five Excellent Ideas For Replacing Mr. T In The 'A-Team' Movie

Okay, so Bradley Cooper (fresh off The Hangover and right on the edge of becoming a giant movie star) is maybe going to take the Dirk Benedict part in the upcoming The A-Team movie. And Liam Neeson is in talks to replace George Peppard.

And then the Variety piece throws in the fact that, you know, they haven't quite figured out who's going to replace Mr. T as B.A. Baracus.

Now, it occurs to me that this is a fairly serious problem. In a baby-name book I saw once, it was argued that you can't give your baby certain names if they are overly strongly associated with one famous person. The chapter was called, "There's Only One Arsenio."

They could very easily have called it "There's Only One Mr. T." (Well, they could have if there were more of a threat of anyone, ever, actually naming a baby "Mr. T.")

So where do you begin looking for Mr. T replacements? Nobody is kind of like Mr. T. Nobody is the new Mr. T. Nobody captures the spirit of Mr. T. It becomes increasingly apparent that Mr. T is Mr. T, and he's the only Mr. T there's ever going to be.

Nevertheless, I am prepared to step forward with several ideas. You are welcome, Hollywood.

1. Mickey Rourke.

Based on that clip, you can see that B.A. is physically powerful, he dresses badly, and he doesn't make any sense. It's a perfect fit. Mickey Rourke is vaguely nutsy, he's aggressively unique, and he certainly has the requisite experience with bombs. (Hotcha!)

2. Justin Long

Okay. If we know that you can't emulate Mr. T, then perhaps the solution is to go as far from Mr. T as possible. Go for the ironic take on B.A. Yesterday's gold-chained bruiser is today's winning nerd! Aside from the small problem of the actual Mr. T quite possibly eating Justin Long if the performance is deemed unsatisfactory, it seems like a pretty sound solution.

3. The Rock

I know, we're supposed to call him Dwayne Johnson now, but if you're replacing someone named "Mr. T," you need a name that says, "I am not so much a person as a grand idea." The grand idea, in this case, of a rock. Massive, action-oriented, and a guy who shares Mr. T's wrestling background, The Rock also has a catchphrase — regarding your ability to smell what he is cooking — that rivals the pitying of the proverbial fool for both stupidity and usefulness.

4. Djimon Hounsou

You might think that his performances in Amistad and Blood Diamond peg Hounsou as entirely a real actor — much like Mr. T's performance as himself on Diff'rent Strokes.

But Hounsou also appeared in Never Back Down, also known (perhaps only to me) as Step Up 2 Ultimate Fighting. So he has serious punching credibility. Furthermore, he appeared as a bouncer in the very first episode of Beverly Hills, 90210, giving him the requisite bad-television experience.

5. Mr. T

Look, Mr. T is still vital. He will be a voice in the upcoming Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs! He had his own show on TV Land not that many years ago! Surely, some combination of CGI, a giant paycheck, and some sort of buttressing apparatus can bring him back into B.A.'s shoes more than 20 years after he left. If he doesn't return, how will we all learn how to treat our mothers?

Rampage Jackson to play BA Baracus Confirmed!

The long awaited search for The A-Team’s new B.A. Baracus has come to a close with former UFC champion Rampage Jackson. Jackson won the role over several other contenders including Common, The Game and 50 Cent. To prepare for the film, Jackson has been removed from the UFC 107 card where he was set to face Sugar Rashad Evans in an Ultimate Fighter finale showdown. The role of B.A. Baracus was previously played by the notorious Mr. T (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), which leaves Jackson with some pretty large shoes to fill. With Jackson in Vancouver shooting The A-Team over the next six weeks, the question still remains, who will play 'Howling Mad' Murdock?
