Published on April 15, 2009
Hey MovieSetters! We have a new episode of Behind the Scenes ready for you! This week we talk about Kate Winslet's Oscar winning performance in the movie The Reader, followed by a look at the new Dolph Lundgren movie Icarus and Frank Miller's The Spirit.
.First off we check out The Reader. The movie opens in post-WWII Germany when teenager Michael Berg (Ralph Fiennes) becomes ill and is helped home by Hanna (Kate Winslet), a stranger twice his age. Michael recovers from scarlet fever and seeks out Hanna to thank her. The two are quickly drawn into a passionate but secretive affair. Michael discovers that Hanna loves being read to and their physical relationship deepens. Despite their intense bond, Hanna mysteriously disappears one day and Michael is left confused and heartbroken. Eight years later, while Michael is a
law student observing the Nazi war crime trials, he is stunned to find Hanna back in his life – this time as a defendant in the courtroom. Next we want to talk about Icarus. MovieSet has had exclusive access to the set and actors and we will be putting tons of exclusive Icarus and Dolph Lundgren content over the next few weeks! Don't forget to check out the sitelet. The movie is about a Swedish, i mean Russian spy, named Icarus. Here's a synopsis.
There were those who called him Icarus. Everyone else knew him as a divorced father working for an investment company. But they didn’t know his other side—his dark side. Because Icarus (Dolph Lundgren) was at his best when he was killing people. For years, he’d worked as a sleeper agent in America—but when the Soviet Empire collapsed, he found
himself in a foreign country with no one to trust. Determined to break from his dark past, he started over with a new identity. But you can only escape your past for so long.Adapted from the legendary comic strip, THE SPIRIT is a classic action-adventure-romance told by genre-twister FRANK MILLER (creator of 300 and SIN CITY). It is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit (Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, the OCTOPUS (Samuel L. Jackson) has a different mission: he’s going to wipe out Spirit's beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality.
