• ‘Broken Embraces’ Nominated for Best Director & Best Actress at EFA

  At the Seville European Film Festival the European Film Academy and EFA Productions announced Broken Embraces was nominated for both best director and best actress.  The film, directed by Pedro Almodóvar, and staring actress Penélope Cruz, tells the story of Harry Caine, a blind writer who reaches a point in his life where he has to heal his wounds from 14 years ago.  The awards will be given on December 12th, 2009 in Bochum.

• ‘Broken Embraces’ Takes Part in San Sebastian Film Festival Made-In-Spain Line-Up

  Director Pedro Almodóvar’s Broken Embraces was chosen along with fourteen other Spanish films to attend the 57th annual San Sebastian Film Festival. Broken Embraces tells the story of Harry (Lluís Homar) a victim of a brutal car accident who not only lost his eyes, but also the love of his life, Lena.  Fourteen years later Harry lives thanks to the scripts he writes, and the help of his former production manager Judit (Blanca Portillo) and her son Diego (Tamar Novas).  One fateful night while Judit is out of town, Diego suffers an accident of his own, and Harry must look after him.  In the long night of sitting up with the boy, Harry tells him of his past as if it was a story. The hypnotic power of fiction is, in this case, painful autobiography. The story is touching and terrible. It’s an amour fou story, dominated by fatality, jealously and betrayal. A story portrayed by a photo of a couple of lovers embracing, Mateo and Lena. A photo someone has torn up into a thousand pieces, with the resulting broken embraces.
