Bruno reaches out to younger British audience

Variety is reporting Universal Pictures will simultaneously release a tamer version of its controversial offering, Bruno, so that younger British movie-goers can get around its current 18-and-over rating.

Perhaps due to the movie's disappointing opening at the box office, the filmmakers resubmitted Bruno to the The British Board of Film Classification after deleting a minute and a half worth scenes containing the movie's strongest sexual depictions and references. The abandoned footage includes a montage of exaggerated sexual activity, the miming of various sexual acts and scenes from a swingers' party.

Universal decided to cut the film after scores of the underage fans that made Sasha Baron Cohen's last film, Borat, such a runaway success were turned away at the theatre.

Vying now for a less restrictive "15" rating, the studio hopes Bruno and his myriad of perversions can reach that younger, impressionable audience.

The man labeld a "terrorist group leader" in Bruno claims he is now a committed pacifist and that the movie's star, Sasha Baron Cohen, conducted the interview under false pretenses, according to WorldNetDaily.

Ayman Abu Aita served in the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades from 2000 until 2003, after which he did a two year stint in Israeli prison. Now, however, he is dedicated to the Palestinan cause through non-violent means and conducted the interview for Bruno on the pretense it would rally support of international youth. He was shocked to learn the film depicts a homosexual character and contains graphic nudity and sexual fetishes. He also felt there was nothing unusual about Baron Cohen's appearance or body language to suggest something was amiss with the interview.

Bruno ruled the box office this weekend with an estimated $30.4 million, throwing Transformers 2 to a distant third. To secure it's success, in the run-up to Bruno's North American premier, Baron Cohen was aggressively promoting the movie.

When the comedian described to CBS's David Letterman last week the way he met Aita at an undisclosed location, Aita slammed him as a "big liar" who "made up stories".
"[Baron Cohen] said this was a film going to help the Palestinian cause," Aita said. "When I heard (four days ago) what this film was about I really didn't believe it."

It comes as no surprise that Aita is consulting lawyers with regards to a lawsuit.

How many people out there can claim to have scored photo time with Dirty Harry, Derek Zoolander and the man who gave us “The 40 Year Old Virgin.” And maybe it’s just me, but I’d definitely be a little afraid to have the wife of a man who carries around a .357 Magnum clawing her way up my back.

Bruno Imposter hijacks Australian premiere of Baron Cohen's movie

Sacha Baron Cohen’s alter ego Bruno got a taste of his own medicine last night when an imposter dressed as him hijacked the Australian premiere of the movie.

The lookalike, who was promoting a fast food chain, fooled onlookers by arriving at Sydney's State Theatre in a pink stretch Hummer complete with a troupe of scantily dressed male and female dancers shortly before the gay fashion designer was due to arrive.

The unidentified man talked to the bemused crowd through a megaphone for a few moments before security realised he was an imposter and dragged him away.

Gay activists are expressing concern that Sacha Baron Cohen's BrÜno may have the unintended effect of reinforcing negative stereotypes about homosexuals -- despite Cohen's obvious attempt to lampoon homophobia. "We do feel the intentions of the filmmakers are in the right place -- satire of this form can unmask homophobia -- but at the same time it can heighten people's discomfort with our community," Rashad Robinson of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation told Reuters. The wire service reported that GLAAD's request that Cohen add a message to the film about gay rights and tolerance was rejected by Universal, the studio releasing it. "Brüno uses provocative comedy to powerfully shed light on the absurdity of many kinds of intolerance and ignorance, including homophobia," the studio said.

Bruno's Butt Lands On Eminem At MTV Movie Awards

Eminem apparently flew the coop from the MTV Movie Awards after a close encounter with Sacha Baron Cohen. In character as flamboyant fashion reporter "Bruno," Baron Cohen flew in above Sunday's award show audience on a wire and in a pair of feathery white wings and his rear end mostly exposed.

But the comedian crashed into an overhead obstacle, and he was lowered into the audience right into Eminem's lap, his bare hindquarters in the rapper's face.

Bruno film crew roughs up news cameraman at "No On 8" rally

Looks like more chaos for Bruno

"Bruno" AKA Sacha Baron Cohen punk'd a Prop 8 rally as it was being filmed. His crew doesn't like the news camera's presence and roughs up the cameraman. Later "Bruno" crew hits cameraman with "Yes On 8" sign while chanting "Yes On 8".

"Doesn't matter the fact that MrVidCam got up in Mr. Cohen's personal space and became more of a paparazzi than a news documentator put him in the wrong. Giving the man distance and shooting like you were shooting is the appropriate way to film, then you go show the officers "Hey they're filming without credentials" boom no problem."

Bruno movie wins ratings battle

Sacha Baron Cohen's latest film, Bruno, has succeeded in getting its age rating lowered in the US, despite initial objections from censors.

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) wanted to give the film the restrictive NC-17 rating, banning anyone aged under 17 from watching it.

But producers re-edited the movie and resubmitted it, achieving an R rating.

Brüno teams up with legends Bono, Madonna, Elton John and Coldplay to record a new single

We're normally used to Bono banging on about feeding the world.

But now he and Chris Martin (Coldplay) have collaborated on a single that MOCKS the efforts of Band Aid.

Comic Sacha Baron Cohen has roped them in to record a single for his latest movie – all about his camp alter-ego, Bruno.

The film’s Dove of Peace track has already been part-recorded in the legendary Abbey Road Studios.

Some of the Lyrics include this: “For people of Africa who live in hell/ They will never wear Chanel.”

Our spy reveals: “Chris Martin was in stitches throughout the recording and only just managed to get his lines out.”

Sting, The Village People, Madonna and Sir Elton Johnare also due to record lines for it this upcoming weekend.
