Changeling on MovieSet
Published on October 2, 2008
Angelina Jolie stars in Clint Eastwood's new movie, Changeling, set for limited release on October 24 and then expanding a week later on Halloween. Jolie plays Christine Collins, a single mother living in the Los Angeles of 1928. One Saturday she kissed her young 8-year-old son Walter goodbye and went off to work. When she returned back home later that day she found that her son had vanished.
Christine went to the police and what followed is one of the strangest stories in the history of Los Angeles. After running up against a questioning public and police corruption and apathy, the young mother finally had Walter returned back to her -- but the problem was that the young boy presented to her by the police department wasn't Walter. What followed was a nightmarish fight for Christine Collins against the legal system and those in authority as she fought for the return of her son.
Changeling also stars John Malkovich as a reverend who emphasizes with Christine's struggle. The movie is in fact based on a terrifying true incident that had long-lasting repercussions for the Los Angeles police department and shaped the image of the squeaky-clean city for generations to come.
