Bio

Lauren Versel has worked in film and television as an editor, writer, director, and producer for over twenty years. Lauren is the founder and director of Lucky Monkey Pictures, an independent production company based in New York City. Over the past three years, LMP has acquired and developed more than twenty film projects in a variety of genres. These projects include "The Scholar," a reality series that LMP sold to Carsey/Warner and Steve Martin/Joan Stein Productions ("The Scholar" aired on ABC Network in 2005), as well as "The Trespasser" a remake of a Brazilian thriller (O Invasor) currently in preproduction with Fox Searchlight. Lauren has written scripts for Miramax, Warner Bros, Tri Star, and Columbia, for producers including David Brown, Stuart Cornfeld, Quincy Jones, Mark Johnson and Jerry Weintraub; for actors like Bill Murray and directors such as Barry Levinson and John Frankenheimer. Her television credits as a writer, producer and editor include hundreds of broadcast hours for CBS,ABC, NBC, PBS and HBO. Lauren has directed MTV music videos and produced and directed several short films. Lauren is the executive producer of "Twisted: A Balloon-amentary," a feature documentary directed and produced by Sara Taksler and Naomi Greenfield. As a writer/director in New York theater, Lauren created the cult hit "The Barbie Project," a history of American Popular Culture as seen through the eyes of Barbie and Ken dolls. She studied directing with Joseph Chaikin and was a directing fellow at the American Film Institute. She is the recipient of several grants.
