Since completing a BA in Film Studies at UBC, alongside director Cam Labine, James has become Vancouver's hottest young cinematographer. His list of commercials and music videos is extensive and he's a regular contributor to works by world-renowned Vancouver artists Jeff Wall and Stan Douglas. His feature film credits include, Dylan Akio Smith's The Cabin Movie, Tony Dean Smith's Summerhood, Carl Bessai's Severed, and the family fantasy Julianna and the Medicine Fish starring Rob Schneider.

A cinematographer who is ultimately responsible for the process of recording a scene in the manner desired by the director. The Director of Photography has a number of possible duties: selection of film stock, cameras, and lenses; designing and selecting lighting, directing the gaffer's placement of lighting; shot composition (in consultation with the director); film developing and film printing.
