Control Alt Delete to screen at VIFF

'Control Alt Delete' will be screening at the 27th annual Vancouver Film Festival. Directed by Cameron Labine, the film stars Tyler Labine as man in love with his computer. He takes it one step further when he begins to have a sexual relationship with the hardware. The festival runs September 25th until October 10th and will feature over 350 films and shorts from over 60 countries around the world.

The trailer for Cameron Labine's film Control Alt Delete can now be seen on the official MovieSet sitelet for the film just recently picked up by Maximum at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival. The film is about a geek who really, I mean really, loves his computer.

Well... since Lindsay was so sweet to share wireless internet access, I'll be inaugurating the project online by saying that this is quite possibly the most enjoyable group of Vancouver-based cast and crew I've worked with since Eve and the Firehorse. Cam Labine is spearheading a graciously vibrant production and guiding a stellar cast including his brother Tyler into a dark comedy of angst-ridden proportions. Vancouver is known for its angst-themed films... I've been on a few.

For those of you who are familiar with long hours in front of a computer, you will want to clean the dusty innards of your workstation after watching this film... \"Hard drive\" will have a new connotation attached to it.

We are passed the halfway mark in production on this fine, albeit rare, sunny day in Burnaby, British Columbia. Most of our day involves covering scenes inside a makeshift surveillance van. As a production sound mixer, the biggest challenge of the day is dealing with our location being positioned next to a major roadway. We are at the Knowledge Network facility and shooting indoors for the latter part of the day.

Bonus... all work days are 12 hours or less!

Toronto Film Festival Unveils Lineup

Event boasts 500-plus guest list

Variety is reporting on the Toronto International Film Festival's completed lineup. This year's festival is attracting some big names to the guest list, including Edward Nortnon for 'Pride and Glory.' Neil Burger’s 'The Lucky Ones' will have it's world premiere, and the Coen brother's 'Burn After Reading' will have it's North American Debut' during the Gala screenings. Canadian Cameron Labine's 'Control Alt Delete' will also debut.

Control Alt Delete gets reviewed at TIFF

Monica Bartyzel of collider.com gave a positive review of Control Alt Delete's recent screening at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival:

Balancing the nostalgia with the quirk, and adding a myriad of laughs, Control Alt Delete is a simple and straight-forward romp. Labine takes the material and presents it with a shrug. Yes, Lewis’ penis is a menace to computer cases everywhere, but while the subject matter is weird, the story is not. Think of it like American Pie – while those crazy kids were trying sex with a pie, or band equipment, they were still presented as run-of-the-mill teens. [more at source - collider.com]

Pop Journal has posted an article about the Toronto International Film Festival. Cameron Labine's 'Control Alt Delete' will screen as part of the 'Canada First!' program. The Festival runs September 4 through 13. Control Alt Delete is a dark comedy set in 1999 stars Tyler Labine, Sonja Bennett and Laura Bertram.

"There is no shortage of Canadian filmmakers to fill out the programmes at this year’s Festival of festivals."

Film unit snaps up rights to Labine feature

Variety has posted an article on 'Control Alt Delete'. Directed by Cameron Labine, the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and has been picked up for distribution by Maximum. The dark comedy stars Sonja Bennet,Alisen Down and Tyler Labine as Lewis, a man who begins to develop a physical attractrion to his computer.

"...Labine casts brother Tyler Labine ("Reaper") as a stressed-out Y2K programmer who has the hots for hard drives. Sonja Bennet ("Young People Fucking") and Alisen Down ("Battlestar Galactica") co-star.

Pic's producers Stephanie Symms and Lynne Stopkewich sealed the deal with Maximum senior execs Charlotte Mickie and Bryan Gliserman..."

Control Alt Delete Begins Principal Production in Vancouver

Hard Drive Films has begun principal photography on their quirky romantic comedy, CONTROL ALT DELETE. Filming takes place in and around Vancouver.

Writer/Director Cameron Labine (Room, Chemistry) is marking his feature film debut with CONTROL ALT DELETE, a script he developed through the BC Film Screenwriting Internship with mentor Bruce Sweeney, and with assistance from Story Consultant Gary Fisher and director mentor Lynne Stopkewich.

In this unusual comedy, it's 1999 and computer geek Lewis Henderson is dumped by his longtime girlfriend. So he does what any young urban slacker would: work less and beat off more to Internet porn. But with the added pressures of his buggy Y2K software and repeated romantic rejections, Lewis discovers that the website images no longer turn him on. Thus begins his strangely satisfying sexual relationship with the machine itself.

CONTROL ALT DELETE stars Tyler Labine (Boston Legal, Marine Life, Fly Boys) and Sonja Bennett (Fido, Godiva's, Punch). The film is Produced by Stephanie Symns (Flower and Garnet, Girl Racers, Very Bad Men) and Executive Produced by Lynne Stopkewich (Kissed, Suspicious River, Lilith on Top).

The film is being produced with the support of Telefilm Canada and private investment.

Exclusive: Control Alt Delete director Cameron Labine speak to MovieSet -- Part 1

MovieSet's videographer Quinn Bender and myself had the opportunity to sit down with Control Alt Delete director/writer Cameron Labine recently and talk about his film and the buzz it's been making. The picture has been picked up by Maximum Films International and a release schedule is being developed by their marketing peeps, but when the film played at the Toronto and Vancouver Film Festivals it generated sold out screenings and much acclaim. Set in the pre-Y2K days of 1999, Control Alt Delete is about a guy (played by Cameron's real-life brother Tyler Labine of Reaper fame) who does the nasty with computers, but it's also more than that as well. Labine sat down with us to talk about the journey he went on to make Control Alt Delete, the reaction he's seen to the film and what his future holds, and in the first of a three-part video interview that's exclusive to MovieSet, he'll fill you in on the basics of his movie. Click here to watch Cameron talk about the premise of Control Alt Delete, his mom's reaction upon seeing the movie in a crowded theater and how his brother felt about being filmed nearly nuds.
