By: Dave DavisI kinda dug the Spierig Brothers' first horror cheapie UNDEAD -- it was an uneven zomcom effort, but it definitely made me wonder what they could do with a substantial budget.
The answer would seem to be DAYBREAKERS, and so far I like it. The Aussie siblings' new flick answers a question only touched upon in other vampire movies: What would actually happen if the fanged ones were the top of the food chain, and started to drain their supply dry?
Ethan Hawke is the scientist seeking to save humanity (not as leftovers), Willem Dafoe assists the crossbow-wielding underground, and Sam Neill is the villain bloodsucker.

Isabel Lucas to transform into Hollywood star

By: Marie-Christine SourrisWHEN Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen hits cinemas on Thursday, audiences will be treated to a different side of former Home and Away star Isabel Lucas.
The action sequel to 2007's hugely successful Transformers features Lucas vamping it up as Alice, a student bombshell trying to seduce co-star Shia LaBeouf.
Since leaving Home and Away, Lucas – who now calls Melbourne home when she's not in LA – has roles in four projects due for release over the next year, including Stephen Spielberg's mini-series The Pacific and Daybreakers with Ethan Hawke.
"...It's so enjoyable playing a character that's so different from yourself, because you can really go and take risks..."

Family values inspire Dafoe's father figure

Yorkshire Post
For over 30 years Willem Dafoe has
played more than his share of complex men.
He's also brought to the screen a gallery of grotesques that have marked him as an actor capable of plumbing the depths of the human psyche. Yet this ordinary guy from a quiet town in Wisconsin tends not to linger over his creations.
Like contemporaries, such as John Malkovich and Gary Sinise, Dafoe flits between movies and theatre. He's lived the real-life role of starving actor. He's seen the lean times. Now he is cosily domiciled in Italy though, he is quick to point out, New York remains his spiritual and cultural home.
"...I was a totally regular kid. I liked sports. I never did think I was going to be an actor because, where I grew up, nobody was an actor. I didn't even know anyone in New York City. That's not what people did, so it never occurred to me..."
