Did you enjoy Mystery Men? Are you looking forward to Kick-Ass? Well if you’re looking for another film that falls under the category of powerless super-hero’s then look no further than Defendor, a crime fighting dramatic comedy staring Woody Harrelson (Zombieland), Kat Dennings (Daydream Nation) and Elias Koteas (The Haunting in Connecticut).
The film tells the story of Arthur Poppington, a regular man who adopts a superhero persona known as Defendor and combs the city streets at night in search of his enemy Captain Industry.
In his attempts to combat crime and bring down this drug and weapons dealer, whom he mistakenly blames for the death of his mother, Defendor ends up befriending a young prostitute.
Armed with unconventional weapons like marbles and paper clips, and with his new friend by his side, Defendor proves that everyone is capable of making a difference as he puts his life on the line and foils the entire crime operation.
Directed by Peter Stebbings, the film stars Woody Harrelson as the dull yet daring Defendor, Kat Dennings as the young prostitute that befriends Defendor and Elias Koteas (who you may remember as Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Chuck Dooney, Denning’s pimp and all around crooked character.
Defendor hits Canadian cinema’s today on a limited release and will expand to the states on Friday February 26th.

If you’ve heard about the upcoming Canadian film Defendor, you might be tempted to think of it as a Hancock copy, or a Batman spoof, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Defendor is part drama, part comedy, and it borrows from superhero films, but unlike its predecessors it uses elements of fantasy to explore real issues of social justice and mental health. Writen and directed by Peter Stebbings, Defendor stars Woody Harrelson, Kat Dennings, Elias Koteas, Michael Kelly and Sandra Oh.
