Bleu leaving Disney for 'Free Style'

"High School Musical" co-star Corbin Bleu is leaving the Disney Channel fold to topline "Free Style," a motocross actioner for Rigel Entertainment. Bleu will portray a motocross racer who dreams of winning the Amateur National Championships, but must juggle his passion for the sport while struggling to support his family. Jeff Woolnough ("Taken," "Battlestar Galactica") helms from a script by Jeffrey Nicholson and Joshua Leibner. Rigel is producing in association with Up North Entertainment. Executive producers include Rigel's John F.S. Laing, David Doerksen and Jim O'Grady of Waterfront Pictures and Michael Emanuel of Canal Street Films. Randy James of James/Levy Management, Blueman Inc.'s David Reivers, and Donald Paul Pemrick and Dean E. Fronk of Pemrick/Fronk Casting also are exec producing the project. Pic starts lensing in November in Vancouver. Rigel has previously produced Stuart Gordon's "Stuck," "Blonde and Blonder" and "When a Man Falls in the Forest." Once "Style" is complete, Bleu will likely return to co-star in the third installment of the "High School Musical" franchise, which Disney will release theatrically next year. In January, he starred in "Jump In!" a Disney Channel pic that bowed to strong ratings.

Rigel Entertainment Teen Motocross Feature Free Style Goes Full Throttle...

Los Angeles October 18, 2007 - Rigel Entertainment is set to commence principal photography this November in Vancouver on the Corbin Bleu starrer Free Style, an action-filled story of perseverance and sacrifice set amidst the physically demanding and visually spectacular world of motocross. The announcement was made today by John F. S. Laing, CEO, Rigel Entertainment. "Free Style, has all the elements of box office success a great story packed with tension and emotion, a hugely popular star, and motocross stunts that will wow the audience," commented Laing. Hollywood heart-throb Bleu stars as nineteen-year-old Cale Bryant, a pre-eminent racer on the local motocross circuit. His dream to win the Amateur National Championships is surpassed only by his devotion to his down-on-their luck family. With the support of his best friend and girlfriend, Cale manages to juggle his passion for his sport with two jobs, in order to help his single mother pay the bills. But on the eve of the national competition, a family tragedy strikes, potentially signifying the end of a dream. In this riveting coming-of-age story, Cale's fierce loyalty to his family and intense passion to ride helps him to overcome the odds as he courageously takes care of his mother”and the challenge of the circuit”to fulfill his ambition. Rigel Entertainment will begin production on its teen motocross movie Metal Birding, which stars Corbin Bleu (High School Musical), this November in Vancouver. The movie revolves around 19-year-old Cale (Bleu), a motocross racer, and his dream of winning a championship while he also works two jobs to help his family. Directed by Jeff Woolnough (Taken, Dark Angel, Battlestar Galactica), Metal Birding is a Rigel Entertainment presentation in association with Up North Entertainment. Penelope Ann Miller has joined "High School Musical" star Corbin Bleu in Rigel Entertainment's motocross action-drama movie "Free Style." Previously titled "Metal Birding," the film, which began lensing in November in Vancouver, also has a new director in William Dear, who replaced Jeff Woolnough ("Taken," "Battlestar Galactica"). No reason was cited by Rigel for the change. Additionally, real-life motocross star Grant Langston and Sandra Echeverria have joined the cast, which includes Matt Bellefleur and Madison Pettis. The coming-of-age story centers on a young motocross racer (Bleu) who aspires to win the Amateur National Championships while struggling to support his family. Miller will play Jeannette, a single working mom to one of the teenage racers who strives to provide for her family while studying full-time to become a nurse. Langston guest stars as the racing champion that Bleu's character and his rival (Bellefleur) looks up to. Echeverria will play Bleu's girlfriend. Rigel is producing in association with Up North Entertainment. Executive producing is Rigel's John F.S. Laing and David Doerksen, Jim O'Grady of Waterfront Pictures and Michael Emanuel of Canal Street Films. Randy James of James /Levy Management, Blueman's David Reivers and Donald Paul Pemrick and Dean Fronk of Pemrick/Fronk Casting also are executive producing. The new Samuel Goldwyn film, Free Style, starring High School Musical sweetheart Corbin Bleu, just premiered last night in NYC! Corbin Bleu, Madison Pettis, Penelope Ann Miller and Sandra Echeverria were all in attendance. Take a look at the photos taken of the cast on the red carpet and at the Free Style After Party!

Free Style is an uplifting story about a young man and his determination to win a coveted spot on the Grand National motocross racing team. With the support of his loving mother, precocious little sister and new girlfriend, Cale proves against all odds that he has the heart, the willpower and the courage to never give up on his dream.
