Synopsis
Genre: Science Fiction | Thriller
GAMER is a high-concept action thriller set in the near future, a time when mind-control technology has taken society by storm. Humans control other humans in a mass-scale, multiplayer online game. Reclusive billionaire Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall) has created the controversial form of entertainment, "Slayers," a hugely popular game that allows millions to act out their innermost desires and fantasies - online - in front of a global audience. Gaming has evolved into a terrifying new dimension...mind control...manipulation...people playing people! At the center is Kable (300's Gerard Butler), the superstar and cult hero of "Slayers," the savage, ultraviolent first person shooter game. Kable is controlled by Simon, a young gamer with rock star status who continues to defy all odds by guiding Kable to victory each week. Taken from his family, imprisoned and forced to fight against his will, the modern day gladiator must survive long enough to escape the game to free his family, regain his identity and to save mankind from Castle's ruthless technology.

If you like gaming, you're going to love this. In the run up to its sci-fi action movie, Gamer, Lionsgate has unveiled an incredibly innovative 3D poster that fans can manipulate in real time with a common computer. It's called augmented reality webcam technology, and we're told its the first time it's been used for movie poster purposes. By showing an alpha image of the film's hero, printed out from the official webiste, your webcam sends a signal to Gamer HQ to superimpose what looks like a holographic 3D avatar right in front of you, which can rotate in any direction. Aside from a few sound effects, there's not much more to it, but it's a great distraction from the everyday.
Click here to test it out for yourself.
Gamer is set for release on September 4. Until then, for trailers, stills and more, check out the Gamer sitelett on Movieset.com.

John Leguizamo to Add Some Crazy Humor to Gamer
Published on: June 9, 2009
John Leguizamo, who plays the character Freek in the upcoming sci-fi film Gamer, told SCI FI Wire that he provides the film's comic relief. Freek joins Kable (Gerard Butler) in a video game in which players control actual human beings in a battle to the death.
"...I'm like a Renfield in the Dracula story, that crazy guy who's locked up in an insane asylum," Leguizamo said Monday in an exclusive phone interview while promoting Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. "I'm in there; I have all this information, and I'm in the prison. I'm in the game..."
