Zooey Deschanel

Bio

Zooey Deschanel is one of Hollywood’s most sought after young actresses. In addition to “Gigantic”, she recently completed a role in the romantic comedy “Five Hundred Days of Summer” opposite Joseph Gordon Levitt. Most recently Zooey starred with Mark Wahlberg in the Twentieth Century Fox thriller “The Happening” for director M. Night Shyamalan, the hit Sci-Fi Channel Emmy Award nominated mini-series “Tin Man” and the independent film “The Go-Getter” with Lou Taylor-Pucci. Audiences will next see Zooey this December in a starring role in the Warner Bros. comedy “Yes Man” opposite Jim Carrey. Last year, Zooey was seen in the Walt Disney film Bridge to Teribithia based on the Newberry Award winning children’s novel and she provided the voice of a surfing penguin alongside Shia LaBeouf and Jeff Bridges in the animated hit movie “Surf’s Up”. She was also seen in a co-starring role in the Warner Bros. film “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” opposite Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck and in the independent films “Live Free or Die” with Aaron Stanford; “Flakes” with Aaron Stanford for director Michael Lehmann and “The Good Life” for writer/director Stephen Berra. Her other recent feature film credits include “Winter Passing”, opposite Ed Harris and Will Ferrell, “Failure to Launch” with Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker, a starring role in the box office hit “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” with Sam Rockwell, Mos Def and John Malkovich and a starring role opposite Will Ferrell in Elf for director Jon Favreau, for which she received critical acclaim for her engaging performance and remarkable singing voice. She also starred in “All the Real Girls”, for which she received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Lead Actress, “Abandon” for director Stephen Gaghan, “Big Trouble” for director Barry Sonnenfeld, “The Good Girl” with Jennifer Aniston and “Eulogy” alongside Debra Winger and Ray Romano. In addition to Zooey’s work on-screen, she has also earned rave reviews for her collaboration with M. Ward on her debut album She + Him Volume 1 and she will be touring this summer. Zooey made her feature film debut in 1999 in Lawrence Kasdan’s ensemble drama Mumford. She then co-starred with Billy Crudup, Kate Hudson and Frances McDormand in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous. Zooey, who was named for the male character in J. D. Salinger’s Franny and Zooey, spent much of her childhood on-location with her actress mother, Mary Jo, and her father Caleb, an Academy Award-nominated cinematographer. She credits her father with instilling in her a keen visual sense and great style.
