Matt Damon Takes On Serious Topics in Recent Roles

MovieSet.comBased on the 2006 book 'Imperial Life in the Emerald City' by journalist Rajiv Chandrasekaran, Green zone is set to take place in Iraq and explores some politically sensitive subject matter. Its interesting that the films star, Matt Damon (Invictus), seems to be taking on serious, often politically important topics in the roles he's playing these days. Being shot closely after acting in the film Invictus, Green Zone is going to be a sort of "next step" in a new direction for Damon as he is rumored to be eyeing a role in an upcoming Robert Kennedy Biopic. Needless to say, Invictus was truly an inspiring film. It will be interesting to see what Damon has in store with Green Zone as it integrates his talents from his James Bond style, edge of the seat 'Bourne' action series with the moving and dramatic energy he displayed with his inspiring performance as rugby champion Francois Pienaar in Invictus. It is certainly a hefty weight on someone’s shoulders to play the leading role in a huge Hollywood movie Like Green Zone, especially considering the film is said to have a “pointed political commentary that the war (in Iraq) was in fact a huge scam and poorly executed.”

Matt Damon on the New Poster for ‘Green Zone’

MovieSet.comThe last time you probably saw Matt Damon was with a mustache and a couple extra pounds in his whistle-blowing roll as Mark Whitacre in The Informant!, but have no fear, he shed the pounds and is back in action in his upcoming war/drama Green Zone. In the film Matt Damon plays Roy Miller, a U.S. Army officer who goes rogue to hunt for weapons of mass destruction in an unstable region after discovering covert and faulty intelligence. Staring along side Damon is Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), Brendan Gleeson (Beowulf), Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine) and Amy Ryan (Changeling). Green Zone hits theaters March 12th 2010.
