How to act the Steve Coogan way: an interview with the Hamlet 2 man The San Francisco Bay Guardian has posted an interview with 'Hamlet 2' star Steve Coogan. The British actor is used to playing roles where the character is rather unpleasant and says that his role as Dana Marsch in the film is quite different.

"...This guy isn't awful or nasty. He's vulnerable and foolish and slightly self-delusional. I could see how you could make him funny. [The trick is to make sure] the audience would care enough about him to see it through to the end. That was the tough thing..."

Movies Online has posted an interview with 'Hamlet 2' star Steve Coogan. He plays a high school drama teacher that conceives and stages a politically incorrect musical sequel to Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Although Coogan is British, he felt strongly that the character be portrayed as an American, and says one of the biggest challenges of the film was to learn how to rollerblade.

"...That's something that I realized, I thought well, maybe I could be really good at it. Then rapidly that became obvious that it wasn't going to happen. I was in Venice Beach and I took some lessons. I checked into a hotel. I checked into Shutters and was there for two nights and booked, I said, "I'd like two days, or three days, maybe three nights." Yeah, so three days straight, I just kept going up and down. There were these two roller skating experts. I just wanted it to look like it was conceivable I could commute to work on them but I can't..."

There were a lot of teachers like that. I don't remember information from teachers, but I remember sort of, "Wow, that's such an amazing person who has that set of rules and thinks that way." I've even been affected by them personally..."

The New York Sun has posted an article on 'Hamlet 2'. Directed by Andrew Fleming, the comedy follows a failed actor turned high school drama teacher as he conceives and stages a politically incorrect musical sequel to Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The paper interviews star Steve Coogan about playing the character of Dana Marschz.

"...He's slightly clueless, but he has good intentions. I'm used to playing people who have bad intentions — and are pricks. The reason people like to watch the other characters is they all feel like they're watching a car crash. This movie was actually quite demanding because I had to play someone with slightly rounder edges and who wasn't as twisted. I didn't know if I could pull it off. That's what attracted me to it..."
