He also shares that Harry Potter has proved to be an enormous part of his life, the script and wether we can expect to see him in the seventh and eighth films. The actor goes on to chat about his other work, the turning points of his career and working with Jackie Chan. 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' hits theaters July 17th.

But then you suddenly get handed a wand and full-length velvet cape, and you're sharing scenes with some of the biggest and best scene stealers who have ever lived. Royal audience for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

The new Harry Potter film will have a royal premiere, it has been announced.

The Telegraph has posted an article about 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince'. The film has been chosen for this year's Royal Film Performance, which a member of the royal family will be in attendance. The screening will take place a few days before it's theatrical release on November 17th, with profits going towards the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund.

"...Directed, filmed and produced in the UK with a hugely talented and largely British cast and crew, it is particularly fitting that this film will help raise funds to support those from the British film and television community most in need..."

Harry Potter set visit up for grabs

A lucky Harry Potter fan can win the chance to visit the set of the last movie about the boy wizard.

To mark the re-release of the first five Potter films - starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson - on Blu-Ray and DVD this summer, Warner Home Video has hidden a token inside one of the discs, offering a fan the chance to visit the set of the seventh and final instalment, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows.

The winner will spend a week on the set at Leavesden Studios, Hertfordshire, working with members of various production departments including set decoration, hair and make-up and the prop department.

Interview with Harry Potter baddie Tom Felton

Tom Felton has been playing Dracon Malfoy for nearly half his life. Playing the same two-dimensional character for so long could quickly become a bore for some actors, but lucky for Felton his role will become increasingly more important in the upcoming film Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. City News had a chance to talk to the Hogwarts’ Bad Boy about his role in the film, and about the 10 years he’s spend on the set of Harry Potter.

“…It's a huge honour, obviously, to be a part of the franchise, and a huge privilege. The people that we've met over the years, that's certainly going to be the biggest loss when it's all over…”

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince grabs record $22-millon in midnight run

It comes as no surprise Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince set its first record within its first minute of release. Screening nationwide today, last night at 12:01 the sixth Potter movie raked in $22.2 million in midnight sales at 3,300 locations.

That means the $250-million movie knocked last year's Batman flick, The Dark Knight, out of first place by almost $4-million.

With The Half-Blood Prince screening worldwide throughout the week and advance ticket sales shattering records of their own, there's a very good chance the movie will go on break just about every milestone there is. The ones to watch out for are the Wednesday ticket sales, now held by Transformers 2 with $62 million, as well The Dark Knight's $203.7 five-day record.

Industry watchers also expect The Half-Blood Prince to push the Harry Potter franchise past the $5-billion mark, earning it yet another record for the highest grossing movie series of all time, currently held by the enduring James Bond.

Canadians will be among the first to feel what it's like to fly with Harry Potter. D-BOX Technologies Inc. has signed on with the latest instalment in the popular fantasy series, titled Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, to install "motion-enhanced" seats in one Canadian and five U.S. theatres. The seats move "in perfect sync" with the film's flight, levitation and battle scenes, but sit still in the film's calmer scenes.

The technology will be installed in 18 seats at Cineplex Odeon Queensway in the Toronto suburb of Etobicoke and in sections of U.S. theatres in Las Vegas; Hollywood; Surprise, Ariz.; Austin, Tex.; and Bloomington, Minn.

New Line Records Unveils 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' Soundtrack

New Line Records will release the original motion picture soundtrack for the newest installment of the Harry Potter film franchise, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, from Warner Bros. Pictures, at digital retailers and on CD Tuesday, July 14. The score selection lineup features 28 diverse tracks, offering the listener over 60 minutes of music from the film, which opens nationwide on Wednesday, July 15.

Nicholas Hooper, who also scored Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, returned to create another powerful and enchanting score. In a first for a Harry Potter film soundtrack, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” will be an enhanced CD giving fans a free digital download of the entire soundtrack in 5.1 Surround Sound audio, along with bonus exclusive content.

Emma Watson talked with Wizard about the making of "Half-Blood Prince," the near decade she's spent as part of the franchise, and the plans she has for her post-Potter life.

With Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince casting its spell on moviegoers across the country, the franchise is poised to out-do the most successful movie franchise in film history, James Bond. So far, the sixth Harry Potter movie has sold out more than 1,000 US show times on Fandango, and 500 worldwide on MovieTickets.com, becoming one of their Top-25 sellers of all time, bumping Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull from the coveted list.
These numbers are expected to rise dramatically as tomorrow's release date dawns, leaving theater owners scrambling to add additional show times.

Harry Potter returns to theaters July 15 with the film franchise's sixth installment, The Half-Blood Prince.

Okay, so you’re a little behind in the Harry Potter series. Maybe your favorite niece is coming to town and you’ve promised to watch all the movies before her visit so you can take her to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on July 15th. But then you realize there are five of these already, and each one is over two hours long. Yikes!

Don’t worry, Movieset has you covered. When little Janie or Susie or Mary or Melanie comes to town talking of Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Gryffindors and Quidditch matches, you’ll be able to hold your own at least enough to avoid sounding too much like a Muggle (Don’t worry, we’ll tell you what that is too).

Just to get you started, Half-Blood Prince is the sixth adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s wildly popular series of novels. As with the others, the central characters are Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) and Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint). To make things easier, remember that this is the sixth movie based on the sixth book telling about the aforementioned character’s sixth year at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In this story, Potter discovers a book marked “Property of the Half-Blood Prince,” which unleashes some secrets of the mysterious dark Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes).

So here’s a list of characters and terms. Study up and you might still maintain that favorite uncle status. And if that doesn’t work, you can always just spend $52 dollars on candy at the movie theater and bribe your niece into a sugar coma.

The MovieSet Harry Potter Glossary

Azkaban - The prison where naughty wizards are sent to pay for their magical crimes.

Bertie Botts - These jelly beans come in every flavor and I mean every flavor. Two varieties are vomit and dirt. Yum.

Boggart - This troublesome creature turns you into whatever you fear the most.

Crabbe - A Slytherin and one of Draco Malfoy’s (see below) sidekicks. He’s portly, smug and not to be trusted.

Harry Potter's arch nemesis, Draco Malfoy.

Draco Malfoy - The arch-enemy of goody-two-shoes Harry Potter, usually wearing an unpleasant sneer.

The Dursley Family - Harry’s only living relatives, but they aren’t exactly of the loving variety. In fact, due to their distrust of Potter’s magical abilities, they kept the poor boy sleeping in a cupboard for years, treating him like a second-class citizen.

Firebolt - The fastest, most advanced broomstick you can get. It can hit 150 miles per hour in only ten seconds.

Flobberworm - These thick, brown worms live in shallow ditches and grow up to ten inches in length.

Glumbumble - A grey, furry insect that flies. They descend from Northern Europe.

Goyle - Another sidekick of Malfoy’s, this one’s got the same sneer and an oddly high forehead.

Gryffindor - One of the four houses of the Hogwarts Academy. The school is named for Godric Gryfifndor, its colors are scarlet and gold. The house symbol is a lion. This is the house to which Harry, Hermione and Ron belong.

Hagrid - The beloved Hogwart’s groundskeeper. He is the one who rescued Potter from his unhappy home and first made him aware of his exceptional wizard abilities.

Harry Potter - The hero of the story. He was orphaned as a boy when the powerful wizard Voldemort murdered his parents. He shows great promise as a wizard and is getting more and more powerful through the course of his Hogwarts education.

Hedwig - Harry Potter’s pet snowy own, a gift from Hagrid on his 11th birthday.

Hermione Granger - One of Potter’s best friends. She’s a Gryffindor and one of the most brilliant members of her class. She’s also pretty easy on the eyes.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - The British school attended by all Witches and Wizards. Its four houses are named for Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin. It is located somewhere in Scotland.

Hogwart’s Express - The steam train that takes students from Platform Nine and Three Quarters at King’s Cross Station directly to Hogwarts.

Hufflepuff - Another Hogwarts house. This one is named after Helga Hufflepuff. The house colors are yellow and black. The house symbol is a badger.

Mackled Malaclaw - Although they look like your standard lobster, this red crustacean is land bound. Along with a sting, its bite results in seven days of bad luck.

Manticore - This deadly, Grecian beast has the head of a man, the body of a lion and the tale of a scorpion. One bite from this beast results in instant death.

M.O.M. - Acronym for the Ministry of Magic.

Muggle - This is a term wizards have for someone with no magical abilities.

Peppermint Toads - These tasty candies bounce around in your stomach after you digest them.

Quidditch - The most popular sport of the wizard world. There are seven players on each team riding around on broomsticks. There are four balls, the most important of which is the Golden Snitch. A team wins when they catch the Snitch.

Ron Weasley, wearing the scarlett and gold colors of Gryffindor, is suited up for a game of Quidditch.

Ravenclaw - Another Hogwarts house. This one is named after Rowena Ravenclaw. The house colors are blue and bronze. The house symbol is an eagle.

Ron Weasley - Potter’s other best friend and confidant at Hogwarts. He comes from a large family of wizards.

Scabbers - Ron’s pet rat. He doesn’t do much besides sleep.

Slytherin - The final of the four houses of Hogwarts. This one is named after Salazar Slytherin. The house colors are green and silver. The house symbol is the serpent. This is the house to which Potter’s enemy, Draco Malfoy, belongs.

Voldemort - The dark wizard that killed Potter’s parents. He has also tried to kill Harry.

'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' rides gravy train to $104-million opening day

Riding on its phenomenal $22-million, record-breaking midnight screening, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince roped in an astonishing domestic box office gross Wednesday of $58.4 million in 4,275 theaters. Internationally the film has made $104-million, that's 40 per cent of the movie's $250-million budget paid off on just the first day of release.

It's domestic gross crushes the success of the fifth Harry Potter film, which rolled in just $44 on its opening day. It's believed loyal Harry Potter fans, who have grown up alongside the boy magician and are now adults, contributed to the success of the midnight screening. The movie's overall day-one earnings may also have been bolstered by the anticipation buildup following it's postponed release last November.

Five-day forecasts now predict the movie will gross up to $150-million domestically.

Should Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince go on to earn $400-millioin more, worldwide, which industry watchers fully expect, the movie will propel Harry Potter to the highest grossing film franchise of all time, currently held by James Bond at $5-billion.

Early look: Can Harry Potter's magic hold for sixth film?

The opening dates have been changed a few times (it's now July 15), and the series of books is complete. We know who dies and who lives. We even know who marries whom and what they become when they grow up.

But the makers of the sixth film in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, are convinced the boy wizard remains a draw.

"Once you're hooked into these stories, it's really difficult to let go," director David Yates says. "The audience has grown up with these characters. I think that gives them a very special relationship. I can't think of any other movie franchise that has had that. They started out at 10 or 11, and now they're 18 and 19."

In Half-Blood Prince, Harry and Hogwarts' headmaster, Professor Dumbledore, journey through time and space to discover the whereabouts of the pieces of the evil Lord Voldemort's soul, even as Dumbledore faces several assassination attempts.

Yates believes Harry's fans will stick around for movie No. 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, due in two parts on Nov. 19, 2010 and July 15, 2011.

Says the director, who also is at the helm for the final chapter: "If there were 10 or 15 books, that might be another thing."

JK Rowling wins Harry Potter copyright suit

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

A judge ruled Monday in favor of "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling in her copyright infringement lawsuit against a fan and Web site operator who was set to publish a Potter encyclopedia. U.S. District Judge Robert P. Patterson said Rowling had proven that Steven Vander Ark's "Harry Potter Lexicon" would cause her irreparable harm as a writer. He permanently blocked publication of the reference guide and awarded Rowling and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. $6,750 in statutory damages. [more at source]

Fantastic, justice has been served. An author gets to protect their earnings gained by squeezing their own creative juices onto the page. Who else could have come up with a bespectacled and disaffected British teen who's dealing with authority figures while learning to become one of the world's most powerful sourcerers? The answer? Neil Gaiman. Seven years before Harry Potter Gaiman published The Books of Magic with a character named Timothy Hunter who even looks like Harry Potter.

The similarities are kind of close. I know it's old news but I thought it appropriate to bring up again seeing as the workd copyright is being bandied about. Rowling denies any prior knowledge of Gaiman's books and Gaiman himself says he's OK with the similarities. Perhaps Carl Jung was right when he wrote about the collective unconscious. I know I as a writer have seen my stories appear on screen over and over again, and I don't presume anyone has stolen them. However, just for conspiracy's sake, Warner Bros optioned The Books of Magic but the project never went anywhere. They also own the movie rights to the multi-billion dollar Harry Potter franchise. Interesting. You can make of that what you will. Regardless, justice has been served. I guess. As Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe posed at the launch of the sixth film, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, they must have been reflecting on their nine years in the spotlight.

Plucked from obscurity in 2000, they beat more than 40,000 applicants to their roles. In the intervening years they have amassed more than £45million between them.

With filming on the last installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, almost completed, the trio are now preparing for life after Hogwarts.

The Harry Potter Advanced Potion-Making Experience

The "Advanced Potion-Making Experience" is an interactive video submission contest launched in support of the much-anticipated July 15th opening of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”

The contest, which is being featured on YouTube, encourages visitors to create their own unique potion-making video. Fans can use the 3D Experience to integrate a provided augmented reality element—a specially designed reproduction—that will cause a 3D cauldron instantly to appear on their computer screens. With a little practice and a few simple keystrokes, entrants can add just the right ingredients to brew up a perfect potion. Of course, fans who choose to use their own cauldron—any large pot will do—can enter the Standard Experience.

The contest is live and accepting potion video submissions through June 24th. A group of semi-finalists will be announced on July 2nd,after which voting will be open to the public through July 5th. The finalists will be featured on the YouTube homepage July 14th and the winner announced on July 15th, the opening day of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”

Next Harry Potter movie pushed back

Reuters is reporting that 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' will not be opening in November as earlier planned but instead in July of 2009. This decision is a reseult of the recent writer's strike and lack of films for next summer.

"...We know the summer season is an ideal window for a family ... release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first instalment..."
