Chris Columbus says I LOVE YOU, BETH COOPER

Director/producer Chris Columbus was drawn to I Love You, Beth Cooper, not only because he could relate to the story, but because he was excited about working with and nurturing a group of fresh young actors.

Best known for directing the first two Harry Potter films (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), and for writing such classics as Gremlins and Goonies, Chris Columbus is currently filming the fantasy-adventure Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lighting Thief, based on the best-selling novel about a New York kid who learns that he is the half-blood offspring of one of the Greek gods.

At the Beth Cooper press day, Chris Columbus talked about how much he loved directing a smaller budget film again, and his excitement for the February 2010 release of the CGI-filled, big-budget Percy Jackson.

"... the reason I did this movie was that I was in a situation where you have big budgets, like with the Harry Potter movies, and you tend to work at a slightly slower pace, and you become spoiled and a little soft, and I thought, “I need to reinvigorate the process of filmmaking.” I wanted to go back to that, and I said to myself, “If I were getting out of film school right now and I was starting to direct my first movie, what would I do?.."

In Promotion of I Love You Beth Cooper, Hayden Panettiere's been asking everyone to tell her their own secrets just like Denis did in her upcoming comedy. On the website iloveyoubethcooper.com, users are able to upload their confessional clips for a special event titled "Beth Cooper Moments of Truth."

Inspired by the upcoming film, 09' Hamilton High School Graduate Kenya confessed her love for Jake Minor in her valedictorian speech.

DirectorChris Columbus is bringing Larry Doyle's very popular and hilarious teen novel I Love You, Beth Cooper to life in a sound stage retrofitted to look like a modern kitchen. The place is a mess. Actor Shawn Roberts (Kevin) has just hurled a real microwave at the heads of his two co-stars Paul Rust (Dennis) and Jack Carpenter (Rich). This decent sized piece of metal and plastic nearly took both of them out, for real. It was a close call. Rust, who is making his feature film debut, could actually feel the microwave on his face. Movieweb talked with him about the experience:

"...I won't say that I've been doing a lot of the stunts, because that will take away from the work of the stunt guys. But I have been doing a lot of the physical stuff. I've been doing a lot of jumping and running around. But the major stunts, like getting hit by cars and falling off of buildings, is being done by someone else. Those guys are doing all the heavy lifting..."

Heroes: Hayden Panettiere Promotes "I Love You, Beth Cooper" Online

Heroes star Hayden Panettiere is heading to the big screen. She's been slated to star in a high-school comedy titled I Love You, Beth Cooper with Paul Rust, and is thrilled about it.

The story of secret desires revolves around a high-school's geeky valedictorian, Denis Cooverman, proclaiming his love for the most popular girl in school during his graduation speech. While I Love You, Beth Cooper is a bit similar to Panettiere's role as Claire Bennet on the NBC series, she was still excited to promote the film. The actress started off an online campaign for the movie, inviting other fans to reveal their secrets through a video.

As Panettiere plays the title character Beth Cooper on the film, she's asking everyone to tell her their own secrets just like Denis did. On the website iloveyoubethcooper.com, users will be able to upload their confessional clips for a special event titled "Beth Cooper Moments of Truth."
