Synopsis
Genre: Comedy
At long last, Madea returns to the big screen in TYLER PERRY'S MADEA GOES TO JAIL. This time America's favorite irreverent, pistol-packin' grandmomma is raising hell behind bars and lobbying for her freedom...Hallelujer! After a high-speed freeway chase puts Madea (TYLER PERRY) in front of the judge, her reprieve is short-lived as anger management issues get the best of her and land her in jail. A gleeful Joe (TYLER PERRY) couldn't be happier at Madea's misfortune. But Madea's eccentric family members the Browns (DAVID and TAMELA MANN) rally behind her, lending their special "country" brand of support. Meanwhile, Assistant District Attorney Joshua Hardaway (DEREK LUKE) is on the fast track to career success. But Hardaway lands a case too personal to handle - defending young prostitute and former drug addict Candace Washington (KESHIA KNIGHT PULLIAM) - and asks his fiancée and fellow ADA Linda Holmes (ION OVERMAN) to fill in on his behalf. When Candace ends up in jail, Madea befriends the young woman, protecting her in a "motherly" way as only Madea can.

Madea Goes to Jail on DVD June 16th
Published on: May 31, 2009
For playwright and filmmaker Tyler Perry, the character of Mabel "Madea" Simmons has always been his entertainment trump card, his anarchic ace in the hole, so to speak. The loud-mouthed, gun-toting, pot-smoking grandma with a wealth of attitude and a penchant for pop culture cross-references has always been his audience window, his way for even the most jaded member of his revival like crowd to connect to his "Go with God" morality tales.
Over the last few years, however, Perry (who plays the bossy battleaxe in full blown comic drag) has tried to wean his fan base off of Madea. She was absent from his last film (The Family that Preys) and had only a minor cameo in Meet the Browns. But now she's back!'Madea Goes to Jail' is out on DVD June 16th

Tyler Perry will push Lions Gate to record revenues, but not profits
Published on: May 29, 2009
If only Tyler Perry could make two or three movies every quarter Lions Gate Entertainment might be profitable already.
Thanks to Perry, Lions Gate should post solid fourth-quarter and record year-end revenues, but it won't be enough to lift the company into the black when it announces its results Monday.
Lions Gate already warned investors and the street back in February that its losses for the fiscal year that ended March 31, 2009, would be in the neighborhood of $135 million on revenues of between $1.4 billion and $1.5 billion. Last year, the company lost $74 million on revenues of $1.36 billion. The studio has said it expects to be in the black in 2010.
