A trailer for CHE

Wednesday, December 03, 2008

Here’s the latest trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s epic Che:

It appears that Che Guevara really is more than just a cool image on a t-shirt. Guevara was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, politician, author, physician, military theorist, guerrilla leader and obviously someone worth making a very long film about. So long, four and on half hours in fact, that it required being broken into two parts. The first one called The Argentinian is due for a January 2009 release and the second part, entitled Guerrilla, is slated for a month later, in February 2009.

I guess the above trailer covers both films.

All kidding aside, Benicio del Toro has already received a best acting award from Cannes for his performance, so watch for an Oscar nod for him as well.

Kristen Stewart

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Twilight star Kristen Stewart is already using her new higher prestige standing to get a new project going, one that will tell the rise and fall of 1980s rocker Joan Jett. Stewart will play the rock and roll singer in the film The Runaways, which was the all-female band that Jett headlined before going solo in the mid-80s. Continue reading…

Exclusive: King of Fighters details revealed

Tuesday, December 02, 2008

King of Fighters

The MovieSet Blog has learned details about the latest video game to be turned into a movie and no, Uwe Boll is nowhere near this project’s set (hey, speaking of Mr. Boll whatever happened to the release of Far Cry?) The film is called King of Fighters and is based on the SNK Playmore arcade fighting game that debuted in 1994 and has spawned 11 sequels and 13 — yeah, you read that right — 13 spinoff games. By comparison, Capcom’s Street Fighter and Midway’s Mortal Kombat brawler franchises are still in the single digits with their sequels.

Learn all the cast, crew and story details after the jump, player! Continue reading…

Star Trek vs. Star Wars mashup

Tuesday, December 02, 2008

I know some of you have seen this before, but it came to our attention today and we thought it was worth another look:

[source geekologie and Dan]

Picard and Vader sharing the screen? Wow!

Fairly well done and funny to boot.

Were these two worlds ever to truly collide there would be an explosive nerd climax of epic proportions. However, I think I’ll listen to Patrick drone on and on about why this would be impossible and would never actually take place.

I really believe some people know far too much about this stuff.

Wolverine looking BAAAAAD (but in a good way)

Tuesday, December 02, 2008

Wolverine Hugh Jackman X-Men Origins

Here’s Hugh Jackman showing his R-face (as in “RRRRRAAAGHHH”) in a scene from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It’s a spin-off from 20th Century Fox’s popular (and profitable) X-Men film series but this one places Jackman’s mutant front and center. If you still want to see more superpowers than just Wolvie’s healing factor and his metal claws, there are plenty of good and bad guys introduced in the movie. Continue reading…

Kung Fu Panda has a choke hold on Annie nominations

Tuesday, December 02, 2008

Kung Fu Panda

No, don’t go skipping ahead to the next blog story just because you know this is the time that awards season begins! This next piece isn’t about any possible Oscar contenders, no Golden Globes, no Peoples Choice Awards, and it’s not even about what stinkers are up for the 2009 Razzies. No, this one’s about one of the cooler awards that are given for the best animated films of the year: the Annies. I wonder if their award looks like a small redheaded girl? Continue reading…

Shia LaBeouf becomes The Associate

Shia LaBeouf

It doesn’t matter who you are in this big wide world of ours, you’re always just one job away from being unemployed — well, unless you’re born into royalty and vastly wealthy or money means nothing to you and you already know what your role in creation is. (Alright, there are two expections but THAT’S IT.) In these uncertain economic times it pays to know precisely where you stand in regard to you career and employment options, and for Transformers and Disturbia star Shia LaBeouf, he’s just as uncertain and scared about where his next paycheck will be coming from. Take The Matrix as an example:

Dodge this!

Closing out the opening shot Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) unleashes twin Beretta Cheetahs on the assembled police and agents as she makes her escape. While rescuing Morpheus, Trinity kills an Agent with her Beretta M84 Cheetah, managing to get close enough for a point-blank shot to the head which the Agent was unable to dodge. [more at source]

Fame remake prepares to roll

Monday, December 01, 2008

Fame logo

Beginning this Wednesday cameras will start to roll on the remake of Fame for MGM under the direction of music video and Pussycat Dolls helmer Kevin Tancharoen. While those of up that grew up in the 1980s will remember fondly the 1980 movie and subsequent television series that followed, those born after the series run might not know the story. Purists will be happy to know that there hasn’t been any major changes to the Fame brand which follows students enrolled at the New York City High School of Performing Arts striving to be the best and start their road to stardom.
