Synopsis
In the action-thriller Public Enemies, acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the incredible and true story of legendary Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger (Depp), the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover's fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public. No one could stop Dillinger. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone, from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard), to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. - In Theaters July 1st, 2009.

Celebrations as 'Public Enemies' hits big screen next week

The clock is ticking toward the premier of a movie that has Wisconsin — and more specifically, Oshkosh — front and center.
Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp as Depression-era gangster John Dillinger, opens nationwide Wednesday. Advance screenings, however, are being held Tuesday in Wisconsin communities in which portions of the film were shot.
The movie’s arrival has been hotly anticipated since Depp, Christian Bale, director Michael Mann and the film crew descended on downtown Oshkosh for filming last year. Besides the premiere, Oshkosh has a number of other public events on the docket to celebrate the film’s release.
