Celebrations as 'Public Enemies' hits big screen next week

The clock is ticking toward the premier of a movie that has Wisconsin — and more specifically, Oshkosh — front and center.

Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp as Depression-era gangster John Dillinger, opens nationwide Wednesday. Advance screenings, however, are being held Tuesday in Wisconsin communities in which portions of the film were shot.

The movie’s arrival has been hotly anticipated since Depp, Christian Bale, director Michael Mann and the film crew descended on downtown Oshkosh for filming last year. Besides the premiere, Oshkosh has a number of other public events on the docket to celebrate the film’s release.
