Synopsis

Genre: Drama | Action

Downtown Las Vegas – the gritty streets, the fast money, the hard-boiled characters just trying to make ends meet. It’s there that Dean lands. He’s yet to see his best years, but he’s determined to make something happen, finally put things back on track...in this town where many go off the rails. He builds a team, a legitimate business, the way he ran tactical units in the military. The guys Dean pulls in aren’t afraid of hard work, they’re good at details, and complete loyalty is essential: Jimmy - he’s young, with a need for speed. Stretch - smooth operator, strictly business. Ron - all heart, always down for the team. Charlie - never stops thinking money. Flip - the ace, he’s good with his hands. Cutty - the big wheel with the bankroll. No ladies - Dean’s buddy Vic explains, it’s not the time or the place. So Dean comes clean and gets his focus, but then there’s Allie. She’s a big singer, they had a big thing, and Dean pulled the big plug. But even as far as he’s run, there she is again. The cards start turning, Dean’s team wins, and they win again. The guys in the pit don’t like that. He loses, loses again, then loses again and again. The guys in the pit still don’t like him. Dean’s broke and they break his face. Rock bottom. He has to Win though, the old-fashioned way. It’s just time to finally put something together and see it through to the end. Allie needs to see it too, and Dean knows it. Dean walks onto the casino floor. He feels the vibe from the pit, the team is in position. Flip is making the magic happen, Ron signals, then Jimmy, the tables are hot. The pit boss frowns and picks up the phone...trouble. But Dean hears Allie in the background, she’s there again, and she’s singing that song. It’s on, tonight’s the night. He grins, ready for battle, ready to take one last swing for the team, for Allie, for himself...

  • Hollywood Comes to Mesquite Again

    Published on: July 21, 2009

Fresh off the triumphant premiere of the movie “The Flyboys” which was partially filmed in Mesquite, the bright lights and cameras of Hollywood are again rolling in Nevada’s “Diamond in the Desert.”

Production crews and actors have taken over a portion of the CasaBlanca casino this week to film part of the movie “Rough Hustle.”

The movie could be called “Ocean’s Half Dozen,” a grittier flick about a group of friends who attempt to beat a downtown Las Vegas casino.

The film revolves around “Dean,” played by Matt Bushell, who is trying to get his life in order by coming to the one city where so many other lives come undone. Dean puts together a team of hard working guys in order to take on the casino. With this independent movie still in production, many of the plot details are still in flux. However, the project is coming together extremely well, according to Executive Producer Brendan Davis. “It’s been fantastic, better than we expected,” Davis said of the Mesquite shoot, in between takes on Tuesday. “Until you get to a place, you just don’t know. We’re really pinching ourselves at how well it’s going.” Davis explained that he and writer/director Delaney Dragon specifically chose Mesquite because the casinos have “much more of the old Vegas feel.”
