The Coen Brothers Don't Get Too Serious With 'A Serious Man'

movieset.comThe Coen Brothers Joel and Ethan are responsible for instant classics including: Fargo, The Big Lebowsk, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, No Country for Old Men and Burn After Reading only to name a few. Their most recent film A Serious Man, is surely to follow suit as they take things back to their roots with the closest they'll ever get to doing a personal biopic. It's set within a Jewish community in an unnamed Midwestern suburb much like the Minneapolis neighborhood in which the brothers grew up. Set in 1967, A Serious Man follows Larry Gopnik who has somehow insulted the universe, resulting in his wife leaving him, his children disrespecting him, and his job stressing him out. Struggling for equilibrium, Larry seeks advice from three different rabbis. Can anyone help him cope with his afflictions and become a righteous person; a mensch, a serious man?
What do the Coens have against poor Larry? Read the full article to find out.

Published on: May 07, 2009His father worked for Mel Brooks, and that’s a tough act to follow. Heeb spoke with Helberg about his recent gigwork.
"...I grew up around the business and hanging out at the Groundlings my whole childhood, so I think it sort of engrained itself into my bones. But I didn’t want to be an actor until the end of high school. I was really going to go down the music road..."
