A Stage and screen performer who came to international prominence for his work in Volker Schlondorff and Margerethe Von Trotta's "The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum" (1975) and, as the captain of the ill-fated submarine, in Wolfgang Peterson's gripping WWII drama, "Das Boot" (1981).
Prochnow began appearing in American features in 1982.
