Bio

A familiar face in front of the camera, Charles Martin Smith has become equally respected for his work behind the camera. He came to prominence as one of the young stars of George Lucas’ classic American Graffiti. Over the years he has starred in such acclaimed films as Sam Peckinpah’s Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, The Buddy Holly Story, Brian DePalma’s The Untouchables, and John Carpenter’s Starman. More recently he has appeared in Deep Cover, Speechless, I Love Trouble, Lucky You, Deep Impact and Dennis Hopper’s The Hot Spot. In 1988, Smith made his feature film-directing debut with Trick or Treat, for Dino DeLaurentis. In 1992, he directed Peter Weller in Fifty Fifty, and the premiere two-hour made-for-TV movie that launched the WB series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.â€� On the small screen, Charles Martin Smith has directed the award winning series, “Da Vinci’s Inquestâ€� and multiple episodes of the followup series “Da Vinci’s City Hall.â€� Charles followed the success of “Buffyâ€� with Air Bud, which won the 1998 Genie Award’s Golden Reel for highest grossing Canadian feature. In 2004 he wrote and directed the feature film The Snow Walker which was nominated for 9 Genie Awards.
