David Goyer Interview, The Unborn
Published on: February 18, 2009
Movies Online has sat down with The Unborn director David Goyer. Goyer talks about being hesitant in directing a horror film and why he didnt want anyone else to direct it. The Dark Knight writer also shares his biggest suprises in directing a horror film, real earthquakes while on set and the extra goodies we can expect on The Unborn DVD. The Unborn is out in theaters now.
"...The scene with the dog and the upside down head. We shot that scene three times. We Talk 'The Unborn' with Writer-Director David Goyer!
Published on: February 12, 2009
Hot off the success of The Dark Knight (which he’s co-wrote after solo scripting Batman Begins), David Goyer isn’t stopping to take a breath. He just finished writing and directing the supernatural chiller The Unborn. Goyer shares he did in fact turn down directing offers for 'The Unborn' multiple times and what made him finally decide to go forth with his first horror film. He also talks about his biggest surprises filming the genre, and the genisis for the idea of 'The Unborn'. The screenwriter and director goes on to chat about the collaborative processes, sound design and casting Jane Alexander as his leading lady. 'The Unborn' is out in theaters now.
"...Well, I knew I wanted a really great actress to play Sofi. She had to be able to do a Hungarian accent, so she had to be damned good. I think Jane Alexander is one of the best actresses around, and she was thrilled to do it. We shot her scenes first. She was a trooper. It was fifteen degrees at that location, no heat, and she is running around in just a nightgown. I called her up the day before to ask her how she would feel about doing that scene barefoot – she was fine with it. She’s in her 60s and running around barefoot! It was cold – the crew was all wearing long underwear and whatnot..."
