Mickey Rourke interview: Year of the ram
Published on: February 10, 2009Scotland on Sunday has posted an interview with the wrestler himself, Mickey Rourke. Rourke talks about fading into the background and being out of work and out of hollywood for sometime. Is now more than 25 years since Rourke became a star with Body Heat, Rumble Fish, Diner and Nine 1/2 Weeks, and fewer than 15 since he became a joke with Wild Orchid and Francesco. Rourke shares that "Randy The Ram was somebody 20 years ago, and so was Mickey Rourke. When you used to be somebody and you aren't anybody any more, you live in what my doctor calls a state of shame. You don't want to go out of the house. You hate just going to the store and having to stand in line, because inevitably someone will stare at you and say: 'Hey, didn't you used to be someone in the movies?'" He also talks about shooting with director Darren Aronofsky, quitting boxing and what's next. 'The Wrestler is out in theaters now'.
"...I remember looking at myself in the mirror and thinking – look at what happened to you. I had blown everything, you know? I lost my credibility, my marriage, my money, my soul. I said to myself, you've got to change. And I realised that the acting was the only thing I had left..."
