Synopsis

Genre: Crime | Drama

The Irishman chronicles the rise and fall of infamous Cleveland gangster Danny Greene (Ray Stevenson), who engaged in a power struggle with the Italian mob.  Greene was as an upstart longshoreman union rep and later became a cocky, legendarily difficult-to-kill troublemaker in the world of organized crime in the 1970’s. Based on the real story of mobster Danny Greene, Christoper Walken will play the loan shark and nightclub owner Shondor Birns and Val Kilmer is a Cleveland police detective who befriends Greene. The incredible ensemble cast includes Vinnie Jones, Marcus Thomas, Linda Cardellini, Laura Ramsey, Paul Sorvino, Mike Starr, Tony LoBianco, Vinnie Vella, Steve Schirippa, Jason Butler Harner, Robert Davi and Fionnula Flanagan.

    The Irishman is directed by Jonathan Hensleigh and stars Ray Stevenson (The Book of Eli) in the title role with a supporting cast that includes Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter), Val Kilmer (MacGruber), Vincent D’Onofrio (Brooklyn’s Finest), Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas), Linda Cardellini (Brokeback Mountain) and Vinnie Jones (Year One).

    Anchor Bay is planning to release the film in North America in early 2011.

    Anchor Bay takes U.S. rights to 'Irishman'

    Anchor Bay Films has acquired all North American and English-speaking territory rights to Code Entertainment’s crime-actioner “The Irishman,” about real-life Cleveland gangster Danny Greene.

    Jonathan Hensleigh (“The Punisher”) directs, while Ray Stevenson (“The Book of Eli,” “Rome”) stars in the title role. Also starring are Christopher Walken, Val Kilmer, Vincent D’Onofrio, Paul Sorvino and Linda Cardellini.

    Anchor Bay, a division of Starz Media, is planning to release the film in North America, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand in early 2011.

    “The Irishman” chronicles the rise and fall of Greene, who muscled in on the Italian mob in 1970s Cleveland and set off a turf war that ravaged the streets of Cleveland and led to the collapse of the Mafia in a number of U.S. cities, including Kansas City and Los Angeles.

    Walken plays infamous loan-shark Shondor Birns, while Kilmer plays the police detective who befriends Greene.

    Lyndhurst Police Chief Rick Porrello has had three of his books on the subject of organized crime published, but his 1998 book, “To Kill The Irishman,” about the true story of Danny Greene, a tough Irish thug working for mobsters in Cleveland during the 1970’s is the first to be translated into film.

    Directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, the film titled The Irishman stars Ray Stevenson (The Book of Eli), Val Kilmer (Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans), Christopher Walken (The Maiden Heist), Vincent D’Onofrio, Vinnie Jones (Year One), Laura Ramsey (Shrink) and Paul Sorvino (Repo! The Genetic Opera).
