New Watchmen, Twilight, Friday the 13th footage shown

Last night Spike TV broadcast the 2008 Scream Awards. If you didn't catch it you missed out on watching a ton of actors come out and plug their upcoming movies just before presenting an award, followed by a quick cut-away to someone in the goth/industrial/punk crowd.

Three upcoming 2009 releases had new material shown during the broadcast: Watchmen, the remake of Friday the 13th and Twilight. And by God, I'm going to show them to you because that's how I roll.

First up, Watchmen. There's a few new nice moments in this footage including one of Rorschach leaping up into The Comedian's apartment, Dr. Manhattan dissassembling a tank using his powers and Nite-Owl and Silk Spectre kissing while a nuclear bomb goes off in the background. Director Zack Snyder certainly seems to be following almost exactly to the comic book's imagery:

Next comes the first real footage from Friday the 13th. If you know your Jason Voorhees then you'll probably find that the only real difference between the old F13th and this new one is that Jason now can move fast, which in my opinion ain't a sacriligious thing to do.

And bringing up the rear is Twilight. Again, some new stuff intermixed with footage we've already seen from the trailer.

New photos from Twilight

Summit Entertainment tapped us on the shoulder and told us about some new stills from their upcoming it's-gonna-be-a-hit Twilight. We've got a photo showing Edward (Robert Pattison) opening a can of vampire whoop-ass on James (Cam Giganet); we've got a still of Natalie (played by Nikki Reed, there she is over on the right) that I haven't seen anywhere else on the 'net; and last but not least, there's a photo of Bella (Kristen Stewart), Edward and his fang gang.

We've also added the three original promotional shots of the Cullen brood. These were released to the media shortly after the initial casting announcement was made. We're a little late to the party there but that's alright, we took the time to dress up and get beer for everyone, alright?

Twilight opens November 21, 2008.

Twilight sequel already being worked on

Nikki Finke is reporting that she's heard a sequel to Twilight is already in development at Summit. File that under "Duh" but the buzz for this tween flick is phenominal; as Finke reports the soundtrack is a bestseller on Amazon yet it's not out yet, the movie calenders are selling like hotcakes and in the comments and talkbacks across the internet the fans of Twilight are sharing how they are planning to take off November 21 from work or school. This is the Star Wars Episode I event for fangirls, or as I just thought up, the fanged Titanic.

I've already gone on record in this blog that I'm not looking forward to Twilight. Nothing that I've seen of it appeals to me and I think that's because I'm an old school kind of guy when it comes to vampires. They shouldn't be running around in the daytime, they shouldn't be romancing teen girls and they shouldn't have as much product in their hair as Robert Patterson does in the promo stills for this movie. Humans are food for suckheads, end of train of thought. But I'm also wise enough to know what sells and Twilight has got the pulse of the zeitgeist going for it. Finke is reporting that Summit, the picture's distributor, is forecasting a moderate $20 million dollar opening. I say that's a low ball expectation; this sucker (pun intended) could go well into the $50 million opening ballpark. I don't have to like it but I know that it's gonna be huge.

All that is missing is a Celine Dion song.
